A steady hand at the helm of Villa Lucero
Nicolas Garcia Ortiz de Taranco fifth anniversary with The Land Group.
Nicolás joined us on 8 April 2020, just as the world entered an uncertain lockdown. It was a difficult time to start anything, let alone assume full operational responsibility for Villa Lucero, our largest farm in Uruguay at 9,000 hectares.
At just 24, Nicolás took on the challenge. Since then, he has led the farm’s day-to-day management, overseeing all field activities and driving its transition towards regenerative agriculture.
Together with Joaquin Labella, CFA and Juan Pedro Scremini Ortiz de Taranco, Nicolás defines high-level production and regeneration objectives and then translates them into practical execution, managing employees, tenants, livestock, crops, and land with equal care. But agriculture rarely follows a script. Weather, livestock health, and staff availability can, and usually do, quickly throw our plans off course. Nicolás meets these disruptions head-on. He assesses, adapts, and adjusts, often within hours. That operational resilience is one of his most visible contributions to our operations.
Now 29 and preparing for a new chapter in his personal life, Nicolás continues to grow with us. His discipline, commitment, and quiet reliability remain constant and essential to our work.
Thank you, Nicolás. We look forward to your next 50 years with The Land Group!
