About El Castillo

July 29, 2024

El Castillo, where Uruguay meets Argentina and Brazil. El Castillo is a 2,000-hectare property we have operated since 2017 in the Department of Salto, north-western Uruguay. It is situated on National Road 3, just one hundred kilometres from Argentina and Brazil. Primarily dedicated to livestock, the property also features a 346-hectare forestry operation developed in partnership with Forestal Oriental (UPM).

Until recently, the farm’s grassland was leased to an independent cattle rancher who managed his livestock using traditional, extensive grazing practices. But we have now decided to establish there our own regenerative beef cattle breeding operation, implementing the adaptive grazing system we have successfully applied at other farms in our portfolio.

Our approach converts abundant, renewable resources such as grass and water into nutrient-rich beef without relying on inputs like pasture seeds, fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides, or heavy machinery. This method allows us to more than double the stocking rates compared to the previous tenant while improving soil health and water retention, reducing erosion, sequestering carbon, promoting a healthier lifestyle for our livestock, and increasing biodiversity and wildlife at El Castillo.

Together, we cultivate sustainable growth.
